Principal's Message

Welcome to Las Flores Elementary School where “Our Mission is Learning!” My name is Holly Wiseman and I am proud to be your principal. I hope you find our school to be a welcoming environment that provides an enriching curriculum geared toward meeting the highest standards. To learn more about our wonderful school please read on!

Our learning community at school is filled with excellent students and professional teachers who work hard each day in a warm and challenging academic environment. The primary focus of our school is student achievement and student learning—particularly in the core academic areas of reading literacy, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition to our standards-based academic program, students participate in a wide variety of assemblies, field trips, dramatizations, and hands-on activities.

This year, we will continue to implement the Common Core State Standards, promoting the 4Cs: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. As a staff, we have chosen to continue our instructional focus in math, developing and nurturing students' ability to demonstrate higher level thinking by exploring multiple ways to solve problems and explaining the thinking behind their solutions.

Of course, math is not the only area in which students will be challenged to demonstrate high-level thinking. In all classes across campus, students will be actively engaged in academic conversations, demonstrating a deep understanding of the content concepts. The 4Cs of the Common Core permeate all aspects of academic life at Las Flores.

Students' use of technology continues to grow as well. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing PTA, we have purchased another Chromebook cart. This means that every student in grades 4 and 5 has access to a Chromebook and the 3rd-grade team has a cart to share among the classes. In addition to the Chromebooks, our library computer lab is also accessible to staff and students. Student learning is enhanced by our ability to reach out to the world through our Internet access—available in each classroom and in both labs. This extends our learning beyond the traditional classroom. Students and teachers alike utilize technology for i-Movies, PowerPoint presentations, Google Classroom, as well as for traditional word processing needs.

Finally, we welcome all of you to be involved in our school community whether it is through volunteering in your child’s classroom or working on a PTA committee—or just by helping here or there when you can. We are part of one big school community and we are proud of our students, parents, and staff! Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. It is an honor and responsibility we do not take lightly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office at any time, and we will be happy to assist you.
